Ivo Vidal

Artist. Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Painting from the University of Chile. He has held solo exhibitions such as “Lo que el pueblo sabe y lo que se sabe de él” (Armada Gallery, 2013), “Necesito figurar” (Yono Gallery, 2012), “La insurrección de la burguesía” (Temporal Gallery, 2012), and “Trabajos de campo” (Flor Space, 2011). He has also participated in group exhibitions such as “If something should happen” (Transformers, Brussels, 2019), “Bomba de racimo” (Caracol Art Gallery, 2018), and “Comité central de la pintura chilena” (D21 Gallery, 2014).

His work investigates countercultural manifestations from the popular world, using a vernacular language full of political imagery and biographical references. He has developed a body of work that moves between sound art and popular music, through which he reinterprets artistic processes from performance and experimental literature, shifting them to local codes and the industry, in exhibition spaces and cultural consumption venues such as museums, galleries, record stores, bars, and plazas. Engages with the history of various cultural movements and questions the role of art within them.
